The Birth of the Magic Kingdom
On October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World Resort officially opened to the public with the unveiling of Magic Kingdom. Sadly, Walt Disney had passed away in 1966, but his brother Roy Disney oversaw the project and dedicated the park to Walt’s memory.
